Discord Boosts
How Server Boosts work, what they unlock for Open Box, and perks for members who boost.
What Are Server Boosts?
Discord Server Boosts are a way for members to directly support Open Box and unlock perks for the entire community. When you boost, you spend one of your Nitro boost slots on the Open Box server. Every boost counts toward the server's overall boost level, which unlocks better features for everyone — not just the person who boosted.
Boost Levels and What They Unlock
Open Box benefits from Discord's three-tier boost system. Level 1 (2 boosts) unlocks a custom server invite link, improved audio quality, and a server banner. Level 2 (7 boosts) adds higher quality screen share, a server splash screen, and more emoji slots. Level 3 (14 boosts) unlocks the best audio quality, a custom server banner, vanity URL, and increased file upload limits for everyone.
How to Boost
Open the Open Box server on Discord. Click the server name at the top left to open the dropdown. Select "Boost Server". Choose how many of your available boost slots you want to use. Confirm. That's it. Boosts last 30 days and auto-renew as long as your Nitro subscription is active. You can remove your boost at any time, but the perk is gone immediately.
Do I Need Nitro to Boost?
Yes. Server boosts are a Discord Nitro feature. Nitro Basic gives you 0 boosts. Nitro Classic gives you 2 boosts. Nitro (full) gives you 2 boosts as well, plus access to all Nitro features. If you don't have Nitro, you can still support Open Box through the Patreon tiers at openboxcomm.in/tiers.
Perks for Boosters
Members who boost Open Box get a special Booster role on the server. This gives you a distinct color in the member list, access to the #boosters-lounge channel, priority support in Help Centre tickets, and a shoutout in the monthly community update. Perks are active as long as your boost is active.
Boosts vs Patreon Support
Boosts directly improve the server experience for every member on Discord. Patreon support funds the infrastructure — hosting, domain, tooling, and operations. Both matter. If you want to do more than boost, check out the support tiers at openboxcomm.in/support. Every contribution, big or small, keeps Open Box free and running.
Current Boost Status
You can see the live boost count at the top of the member list on any Open Box Discord server. The goal is Level 2. Once we hit that, screen share quality goes up for everyone in voice channels — which means better dev sessions, game streams, and live events.
